5 Ways to be More Active

The sun is shining, the sky is blue, the birds are chirping, and everything is starting to turn colorful again. THANK GOD. Although I wish I wouldn't, I always go into hibernation-mode during winter and spend much less time outside than what's ideal. I just despise the cold. I can't bring myself to walk or run in below-freezing temperatures. I have no interest in cold fingers, feet, ears, or anything for that matter. But thankfully, now we don't have to freeze! Spring has sprung here in Massachusetts and I look forward to spending as much time as I can out enjoying the fresh air. Out of hibernation and into the sun!

Now that the weather is nice, there are much fewer excuses to not get out and be active. Even ways not including being outdoors, there are so many things you can incorporate into your lifestyle to keep yourself on the move.

✩ GO FOR A WALK ✩
As I've rambled on about for about a paragraph now, FRESH AIR! SUNSHINE! ABOVE FREEZING TEMPS! It's all out for you to enjoy and one of the best ways to take advantage of it is to go for a walk. Listen to a podcast, audiobook, music, or just the birds, but go. I promise it's time you'll be able to relax and enjoy! Like I used to, you may think walks don't fit into your busy life, but - if you can't include them on other days - they're the perfect activity for your rest day.

i always end up dragging her with me when i go walking :))

✩ BIKE INSTEAD OF DRIVE ✩
Provided the destination is within a reasonable distance and safe to get to, save the gas money and bike there! I love to bike to the library, to the baseball fields, into the center of town, and to my school for sporting events whenever I can. There's absolutely no harm in getting the extra exercise and time outside!

✩ TAKE THE STAIRS ✩
Oh my goodness have you ever stayed at a hotel and taken the stairs every time you go up and down to your floor? It's a workout in itself. Also, your Fitbit will thank you :)
In all seriousness, taking the stairs instead of the elevator is such a good way to get in the extra movement. Plus, I'm sure if you work at a desk job you're probably itching to get your legs moving!

✩ DANCE ✩
Okay but let's be honest, is there anything better than jamming to your favorite song? Put on your favorite tunes and jump around - it'll get that heart rate up without you even realizing.

✩ FIND A HOBBY YOU REALLY ENJOY ✩
Maybe it's not something that requires much physical activity, but hobbies are good for keeping your mind active. Cooking, scrapbooking, photography, blogging, writing, reading, painting, and drawing (just to name a few) are all great ways to sharpen your mind and keep yourself occupied.

I'm wishing you all a great week and that sunshine is headed your way!

stay on the sunny side,

    1. Thank you! Me too, hopefully the rain will clear here! The past week was nice but since the weekend it's been pouring buckets. Food for the flowers, I guess!
