My Dream Dressing Room

I'm using up every single ounce of space in my current closet and making the best out of it, but for as long as I can remember, I've been so jealous of the closets in movies that are the size of my entire bedroom x 5. I mean, being able to walk into a huge room full of clothes would be pretty awesome, right?! Whatever your sense of style may be, I believe your closet should reflect it, which is why I designed my dream dressing room with a navy, white, and gold color scheme - not too flashy and not too boring. Maybe one day I'll move into a house with a 500 square foot dressing room, but for now, fantasizing about how I would decorate it will do. ;)

I can just imagine myself lounging on this sofa and looking out at all the gingham and stripes that make up my closet... Sounds good to me!

My dad and I always joke about how pillows serve absolutely no purpose besides getting in the way, but I think they're rubbing off on me. (Mom, I know you're glad I'm starting to like them.) These two pillows make a world of a difference in decorating the plain white sofa, and I love the navy in both of them!

Forget one, I want a wall of them! I currently have a wall-length mirror on the back of my door, and I use it every day! I think it's definitely a necessity - especially in a dressing room

I've always loved the idea of hampers, (even though laundry shoots are my absolute favorite!!) and when I saw this one, I knew it was too cute to pass up!

How can you tell what your outfit looks like without proper lighting?! I love the hint of gold this chandelier will add to my (make-believe 😢) dressing room. There are so many interesting lighting options at Arhaus to choose from, but this one caught my eye right away.

For all those extra items that don't seem to fit on hangers, there's this beautiful dresser in the prettiest light gray hue - and I love it!

Though I love hardwood flooring, I can't stand it when my feet are cold from walking in rooms without rugs, so I had to pick one out for my dressing room. The navy ties into the color scheme of the room and I love how the pattern adds a little spunk!

You know the drill, lighting is key. (Not to mention how the gold matches my theme perfectly and this lamp is adorable!)

If you were to ask me what my favorite thing to do is or if you were to ask me where my favorite place to be is - I'd say the beach. Everything about the sand, sun, salty sea, sailboats, and seagulls tickles my soul, so you can bet that when I saw this wall decor of a sailboat, I immediately added it to my virtual dressing room!

Putting Together a Casual but Cute Outfit

Let's face it - we all have those days when it takes all your effort to just get out of bed, never mind put on anything other than sweatpants. I mean, dresses are great and all, but when you're up before the sun for the 5th day in a row, they aren't exactly screaming your name from inside the closet. Whether you're sick, up late doing homework and have a short amount of time to get ready in the morning, or just don't feel like dressing up, there are so many alternative ways to look good and feel good at the same time. What's the point of wearing an outfit if you're absolutely miserable all day?! Here are some of my tips for putting together a cute and comfy outfit:

Wear patterns // Stripes, polka dots, argyle, gingham, seersucker... anything. A solid colored top and shorts can be boring, but a patterned top with jeans makes for a perfect outfit all-around, for going out to eat, running errands, and going to classes.

Wear t-shirts with name-brand logos // I can't even tell you how many times Polyvore outfits with Vineyard Vines t-shirts, athletic Nike shorts, and Nike sneakers pop up in my Pinterest feed, and I have to admit that I think they're super cute for weekends. I'm so glad that fancier clothing companies put their logos on t-shirts because then I can wear one without feeling like I look like I'm in pajamas. They don't break the bank and are perfect for the days when being comfortable is your #1 priority!

Light-wash jeans // When you're going for a more casual and simple look, I'd definitely recommend wearing looser, lighter-washed, and maybe even slightly ripped jeans. (I'm not a huge fan of big rips in any pants.) Light jeans look super cute with a sweatshirt and a pair of Converse sneakers, and that's definitely my go-to outfit when I'm on the sidelines on the cool fall mornings watching my siblings play their sports!

Nothing too tight // I've seen so many people that completely ruin their outfits by wearing super tight clothes. A sweater that feels like it's squeezing the guts out of you probably looks like it is too - and that's not a good look. (Not to mention it would be so uncomfortable!!)

If you're going to go for the casual look, go for it with 100% effort. // White jeans and an oversized sweatshirt don't match. Period. An oversized sweatshirt and light jeans - now we're talking.

What are your favorite casual outfits?

Life Lately vol. 1

It's only the third day of school, but you can find me sitting half-asleep on the couch in my comfiest pajamas, eating a larger than justifiable bowl of ice cream. If you're looking for a party, my house is not the place - all lights are out by 10:00 pm at the latest. At school, all we've really done so far is go over summer work, review class expectations, and all that other fun stuff (NOT!), and I feel like I've run a marathon by the end of every day. I'm so ready to start getting into the swing of things, and I feel like the days will pass quicker when I'm actually doing something with my time. School is quite enjoyable for me, and I'm so excited to start learning... Knowledge is power! In the meantime, I'm trying to get through all these days of completing all about me pages and making name tags. (I'm sure all elementary, middle, and maybe even high school students understand the painfulness of it.)

Putting a more exciting spin on things, I just wore my new Vineyard Vines tunic with my white jeans - before Labor Day (even though I'm going to break that rule sooner or later) - that I love together! The white and touch of aqua remind me so much of summer, and I'm trying to soak up every last bit of it before fall is in full swing. Enjoy the photos!

We have an apple tree in my backyard, and the apples are always ready to be picked super early in the season!

Keeping Things Neat and Tidy

As my family is well-aware of, I am the ultimate clean freak... but I'm not the least bit ashamed of it. The other day, I tried to imagine what my life would be like if I weren't so Type A, but I honestly and truly couldn't do it. I love to make messes and have fun, but I think I'd go out of mind if I never cleaned up afterward. My sister jokes that I'm going to live in a pristine, all-white apartment that never has a speck of dust or dirt inside, and honestly, that doesn't sound like the worst thing in the world. (But I'd much prefer a beach house with hydrangeas everywhere.)

Every Sunday, I like to lightly clean my room. By lightly, I mean vacuum, dust, change my sheets, and wipe down my desk and nightstand. When I'm done and have a clean carpet and furniture, I seem to have a much more positive attitude about facing the week and all of its challenges to come. Once a month, I deep clean my entire room - I wash my walls with soapy water, clean my curtain rods, vacuum, dust, shampoo my rug, go through my closet, and clean out my desk. No stone is to be left unturned! I always feel better knowing that I did something productive and am starting fresh with a clean space!

A helpful tip for a tidy house: Always take the extra few seconds to put your laundry and items away, instead of throwing them on the floor or furniture. You'll regret leaving things where they don't belong when you have to go back and clean everything up all at once.

Am I the only one that actually likes to clean?! (Mom, Dad - if you're reading this and other people have commented, I'm not the only neat-freak out there.)
